RENOVATION & ADDITION TO CAPE COD
CHESTNUT HILL, BROOKLINE, MASSACHUSETTS

(w/Dell Mitchell Architects)

This estate of 5.2 acres, adjacent to The Country Club, was purchased by the client to entertain her numerous family members who came to visit. Several guest apartments were thus designed within the 15,000 sf rambling shingled cape.

The previous dated lap pool was demolished to make way for a complete spa, dressing area and new lap pool. While the exterior of the new lap pool pavilion matches the New England cape cod architecture of the main house, the interior utilizes traditional Japanese architecture, which emphasizes economy of design and a sensitivity to the national environment.

Sliding shoji screens, clean authentic Japanese detailing, and exposed fir beams were used to contribute to the calm Japanese temple mood of the spa, dressing and pool area.
